The Hanover Township Fire Department protects the 12,000 residents located within 22 square miles of Hanover Township, which is located approximately 20 minutes South of The City of Scranton. The fire department also protects several key traffic areas such as Interstate 81, Route 309 as well as Route 29. The fire department also has a water rescue program, with two inflatable boats, mainly due to the Susquehanna River, which borders the township. Bordering Hanover Township on the North is the City of Wilkes-Barre on the East is Ashley, Sugar Notch, and Warrior Run, on the South is the City of Nanticoke, and to the West is The Susquehanna River with Plymouth Borough on the other side.
Our fire department operates out of six fire stations located in various parts of the township providing not only fire suppression but rescue services as well. Each station is manned by a paid driver Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm, all other memebers are strictly volunteer. The current township officers include a fire chief, deputy chief, two battalion chiefs and a safety officer.
| The Fire Department in conjuction with the community ambulance association also owns a Command Vehicle (2002 Dodge Durango) which is also known as the Duty Chief's Vehicle. This vehicle is staffed by a select group of indivudals from within the Hanover Township Fire Department.
The department has a fully functional Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), Safety Committee, Fire Prevention Committee, Fire Police Unit as well as an amazing and dedicated Ladies Auxiliary Group which are based from stations 2, 5, and 6. | | |
